5 Tips For Working From Home

I’ve been working from home for almost three years now and I love being able to work whenever I want and set my own hours working as an editor and writer. After leaving college and being told I was “unemployable” due to health problems, working from home seemed like the best option for me. I get to set my own hours and choose the kind of work that I want to do. More and more people are actually starting to work from home today which why entrepreneurship is on the rise.

Here are 5 tips for working from home:

  1. Make a list go goals each days and prioritise. One important thing about working from home is to set goals each day and prioritise the work you need get done. I find it best to get the most important work done first, such as projects that have the shortest deadlines. Projects that have longer deadlines get pushed back until later. Making a list of things that you need to get done that week/day helps keep you focused and stops your mind from wandering.
  2. Set up a dedicated work area. some people set up offices in their home but you don’t have space for that, set up your own dedicated work area specifically for work. One of the best things about working from home is you can literally work anywhere, but I find I stay more focused and get more done when I have my own work space which is just a large desk in my room. My desk is for work, not for sitting around playing game or watching Netflix.
  3.  Create a schedule. One bad things about working from home is that you can easily become distracted by other things. Create a schedule of everything you need to get done each day to stay focused and avoid unwanted distractions.
  4. Don’t live in your pajamas. Working from home all the time means you can literally work in you pajama, yay! But this can soon become a bad habit. I make sure I get dressed every day, even if it’s only wearing lounge-wear because it’s the most comfortable. Wearing real clothes makes me feel better and helps with my productivity. Don’t live in your pajamas all the time.
  5. Take breaks. This is the hardest one to do as it’s always tempting to get just one more bit of work done or answer one more email. But it’s very important to take breaks throughout the day or you will soon burn yourself out. Try to take a break every thirty minutes and remember to have at least one day off a week where you’re not working.
