For many writers the fear of self publishing can often prevent them from ever publishing a book. I know fear and self doubt stopped me when I was writing my first novel back in 2013. There’s so much information out there on self publishing that it can seem very overwhelming at times with people saying you should do this and do that.

Here are 3 tips for overcoming your fear of self publishing.

  1. Don’t try to please everyone. A lot of writers in the beginning find it hard to accept the fact that not everyone is going to like their book. One book can’t appeal to every single person. Some people may like a romance novel others don’t. So don’t try to please everyone. Having just a few people loving your book is better, those people will become your real fans.
  2. Realise that self publishing your first book is only the beginning of the journey. Yes, it can seem very overwhelming when you’re first starting out. Keep things simple, outsource things like editing, formatting and cover design.
  3. Don’t try to do everything all at once. It can be tempting to try to do everything at once, don’t do this or you will quickly become overwhelmed. Take things one step at a time.
  4. Outsource things when you can. Outsourcing things such as editing, formatting and cover design can make things a lot easier.
