It can often be hard for writers to keep their creative spark going and creativity is something most writers, myself included, often struggled with. If you don’t feel inspired it can be very hard to get those words down on the page. So how do you keep the creative spark going?

Here are 20 ways to spark your creativity and stay inspired:

  1. Carry a notebook everywhere you go in case inspiration strikes so you can write down any ideas that come to you.
  2. Don’t give up, that’s the worse thing you can do.
  3. Try writing a short story instead of focusing on your novel.
  4. Step away from your computer and try writing with a notebook instead.
  5. Stop beating yourself up if you feel you can’t write anything/
  6. Take regular breaks so you don’t get burned out.
  7. Be open to other people’s ideas.
  8. Listen to inspirational music. What kind of music do you like?
  9. Get feedback on your work.
  10. Try reading a book. Reading can be a great way of inspiring writing and creativity.
  11. Practice writing something different such as dialog or description. Or something that you don’t normally write about.
  12. Go somewhere new and take note of the experience.
  13. Allow yourself to make mistakes and know that it’s okay.
  14. Take risks with your story and characters.
  15. Appreciate yourself. You are a writer, that’s not an easy thing.
  16. Don’t force yourself if your mind is fizzled. Let it come back naturally.
  17. Stop trying to be perfect. No one is.
  18. Try writing down some ideas.
  19. Try outlining a different chapter or story.
  20. Watch a movie.
